In part of the clip, you can see a regular horizontal axis turbine, a HAWT, turning at twice the RPM with same wind condition. That's why the utility companies use horizontal axis turbines with propellor type blades, there is no resistance on backside. With that WindSpire, as one side catches wind, the other is resisted by same wind. That's why so slow and low yielding.

I'm assuming this design of wind turbines use rising of heat convection along with the Darrieus wind turbine concept to generate electricity?

Did you see the news topday saying that the plant making these WindSpires was going out of business or closing down. I guess the big government subsidies were running out or something. Look at my install of rooftop wind turbines and solar panels at my house. If you Favorite my videos or Subscribe that would be great. Thanks

Wind power is the alternate source of clean energy. There are many companies who are working towards the production of clean and more affordable energy. Transformer company, Pacific Crest Transformers has articles and whitepapers on wind energy. They also provide custom-built energy efficient transformers for wind farms.

i have been to the largest wind farms in oklahoma, they are not noisey, the wind blowing across your year is enough o drowned them out. funny thing though i saw no dead birds on the ground. peace

As the opening video shows, the large wind farms don't use a vertical design because of the poor yield they usually get? How many watts can you get in a 6mph wind? 6 mph is the cut in speed of the most efficient home wind turbines.

If proper studies were done ahead of time, bird death should be non-existent. They have built a wind farm along a bird migration route here in Sweden. There are 12 turbines that 1.5 million birds pass through each year. They found one bird death between 1999-2003. And they monitor it by sight and by radar at night.

Interesting.
Does anyone know what wind speed is required for 1.2Kwh? Completed (installed) cost? How would this unit compare to the Whisper?

it seems to be a very effective piece of technology. It is cost effective and will ultimately, decrease our dependency on fuel. Let's do it!

I think a investigation of wind turbines like this on a larger scale needs to happen, I have seen the one at the botanical garden in high winds its a little noisy and wobbly, But it does not give shadows like traditional wind turbines, so on a larger scale something of this nature could be a really good solution, and if its at the botanic garden it's got the attention of the US government.
