how does an electric inverter used at the tail end of either home solar panels or wind generator stay in phase with the incoming household current. It would seem to me that if the phase was just slightly out of time with that from the power company, much of the power produced would be lost.

A couple of persons said Solar power generators are costly because of it equipments. How about the wind power generators ? I residing a km near sea shore an there would be some wind at most times.
I am in South India and I need to know the total cost for setting up a wind generator for my home in order to cut down my electricity bill. A set up that can power at least 4 Fans, 4 tube lights (40W) and a computer.

I have a friend who would like to install a wind generator for electricity, but the local power company will not let him connect to the power grid unless he can show that he has a million dollars insurance. Well, he cannot find any company that offers that type of insurance for any price. He has written to everyone he can think of but still no source of insurance. The reason he wants to connect to the power grid is to use it as his storage system so that he doesn’t have to maintain a whole bank of storage batterys. Does anyone know where he can get this type of insurance for a system that will be in the state of Texas?

Wind is a powerful source of energy that has been harnessed for different uses for centuries. More and more scientists and researchers feel that wind can be used effectively as a renewable energy source and this can be done only when power within the moving air can be harnessed properly.

The Wind Energy Industry has grown rapidly since the 1990’s and is considered as one of the fastest growing sectors in the power generation industry. Some of the European countries have even installed wind turbines that have been in operation for almost 20 years now and this entire operation has been extremely successful as well. Using wind turbines to harness wind power to create energy have brought down the production costs and are viable option for the coal fired power stations.

According to a study, the UK has the largest potential wind energy resource in the entire Europe and hence wind is being regarded their most promising future source of renewable energy technologies. As of today the wind turbines in the UK are producing electricity that is being delivered to almost 380,000 households and reaching around 1 million people. A salient point of the use of wind energy is that it has reduced carbon dioxide emissions by almost 1.49 million tones per annum.

The question is how can wind be converted into energy? The answer is: by using a wind turbine. The wind turbine is basically a type of rotating device just like a huge fan that can convert the kinetic energy present in the wind into mechanical energy. When this mechanical energy is used by any type of machinery like a pump then such a machine is known as a windmill. If the same mechanical energy is converted to electricity then the machine that does the conversion is called a wind generator or a wind turbine. It is also known as a wind energy converter (WEC) or a wind power unit (WPU).

Surprisingly the first use of the wind machines was for grinding grains as early as 200 B.C in Persia. It was also introduced in the prosperous and powerful Roman Empire in 250 A.D. The year 1900 saw the maximum number of windmills being used in Denmark. Almost 2700 windmills were installed to provide the much needed mechanical load to pumps and gave a peak power of 35MW.

Why turbines should be used to make electricity from wind

Wind turbines can effectively help in creating mechanical energy, which can be used for multiple purposes including assisting in the generation of power and electricity. Some of the other uses include:

It is a source of clean renewable energy that will not generate any greenhouse gases or emit carbon dioxide or even produce any dangerous wastes.

Hey Erik here,

What you are reading now is my uncensored, sort of, review of what I really thought about Earth4Energy and how I learned to build wind generator.

Note – this is a review though, if you’re looking for the Earth4Energy website then click to the left.

Why am I writing this? Well, there are several reasons. I love the nature and wildlife. If my few words here could help you to start your own wind power system, then that could be a tiny help in saving the environment. Another point when getting older, is thoughts about what we leave to our children. Maybe it’s too late already but I think it’s worth trying.

Ok, first of all I have to admit that I am not a mechanic. Yes, as I am about to reach my 50s I have done some easier repairs at cars and my sons scooters and so on. But one thing I certainly hadn’t done before this project was any electrical jobs at all. All my life I had stayed away from those kind of tasks as I didn’t have any clue about how to fix them. This was actually something that held me back starting a wind energy project for some time. You might also want to check out my blog about how to build solar panel.

I did start a couple of other wind projects earlier and they were not successful. They failed because I didn’t know how to do and didn’t find the answers in the instructions that I had.

The second time I tried, I only used sites and information that I found on the Internet. There are hundreds of pages about how to build wind generator but I found that I had really difficult to choose which one I should trust. As I had tried before I was really skeptical.

To make a long story short – I worked with this project for about two months until I understood that I had to find better instructions.

Now I found the Earth4Energy site.

This seemed to be a much more comprehensive course than I had seen before and yes, it was.

It takes you by the hand, and shows you step by step one of the easiest and most affordable methods to build your own wind generator.

The step by step guide is really easy to follow. That is certainly the part that I like most. I found that when I followed these steps I actually built the generator that I had dreamed about for years.

Videos that helped me to build wind generator

Something that also helped me a lot was the videos. Things that I had read about before and didn’t understand made sense now when I looked at the videos.

The site claims that you can build a wind mill for under $200. I am not quite sure about that. I had some parts from earlier tryouts that I could use in my system making it hard to decide. Anyway, to me it seems difficult to build something that cheap. I might be wrong.

In conclusion I am glad that I found the Earth4Energy site. The fact is that I finally built my wind mill with this guide. This site has also opened my eyes to solar power as the guide actually consists of how to build both wind and solar generating systems.

I also save money every month and I know that I have done something really good for the environment.
