Whenever the entire planet will be wrestling with ways in order to deal with the actual serious energy situation, what’s the the very least we are able to do? We all have to start by protecting the energy we now have as well as producing much more electricity utilizing alternative energy options such as solar and wind power solutions.

The actual implementation or how to build wind generator just isn’t viewed as really inexpensive; nevertheless, it works for a tremendous cash saver over time while the price of generating electrical power will become zero. Many experts have noticed recently that folks tend to be developing wind power systems even in locations with the normal speed of wind lower than Eleven miles per hour. Preferably, usual speed of wind at the site we recommend setting up the wind generator at ought to be 11 miles per hour, however a a bit lower average can be reaping great outcome for consumers.

Something which dissuades folks from installing a wind generator may be the primary expense. Nevertheless, it’s possible to build a wind generator at home for a a lot less cost. It’s, nevertheless, crucial that you think about some things whilst installing a wind turbine on your own.

Get yourself a very good plan to create a wind generator at home. Bear in mind the actual result you would like the wind generator to create.

Search for robust parts. Your self made wind generator should certainly not get destroyed from hefty winds.

Look at the actual prices of the products available and choose the parts which fit your spending budget as well as your property.

When searching for a wind generator strategy, try to find the following attributes:

Pictures: Visual descriptions function much better compared to only-text ones. In case your wind generator manual offers illustrative descriptions to make a wind generator, it can make your job much easier.

Simple terminology: In case your windmill-making guidebook makes use of lots of lingo and techie info, it is better to locate a different one. Search for one which offers easy-to-understand language making your work fluid.

Component part descriptions: Your do-it-yourself wind generator manual should be capable to offer you in depth visual and also textual descriptions of all of the elements you have to make use of. It’s also essential that the guideline lets you know which kind of device is best suited for a site such as your own.

Neighborhood details: In case your information offers you details about the very best offered products in The European countries when you are studying it from the countryside area in western United states, your manual will be as good as worthless. Locate a manual providing you with products details associated with locations around you.

<table cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" border="0"><tr><td><img src="http://www.buildwindgenerator.org/images/B001CZGFKQ/41Uth%2BWfI6L._SL75_.jpg" /><td></tr><tr><td>A wind turbine is a long term investment. Before you purchase a wind turbine, the first factor to consider is if the energy produced by a wind turbine can pay for itself in 10 years or less. The second factor to consider is installation and ownership cost. Poor reliability, low quality and high maintenance will greatly increase ownership cost and make the wind turbine impossible to pay for itself. The third factor is environment and safety. A wind turbine should be safe for high winds, quiet and have no vibrations to make it residential/home friendly. WindMax wind turbines can meet the above requirements and do much more: * Designed and built by an experienced wind turbine technology R&D team that are committed to innovation and quality. * CE and ISO certified * Amazingly quiet operation with little or no vibration. * Reliable two-moving-part maintenance free design. No problematic furling. * Fully automatic with blade aerodynamic braking and controller electromagnetic braking. * Safe operation at high wind. Survival wind speed is up to 134 mph (3 blades models). Old style fiberglass blades make the old style furling based wind turbine a hazard at high wind. * High efficiency is achieved by matching the design of the generator and blades. * Patented Blades with twisted aerodynamic design and high efficiency are made using the latest advanced thermoplastic engineering and precision injection molding technology for highest strength, performance and durability. * Easy installation, no welding needed. Pole connector provided for standard Schedule 40 2" pipe pole. * High quality generator design with strong neodymium magnets. Every magnet must go through stringent tests before use ! * The blades are made of high-strength Nylon-fiberglass materials. They are not the hollow fiberglass blades which are dangerous in high wind and need to be replaced in a couple of years. Rated 400W @ 12 m/s or 26 mph Maximum Power: 600W with wind/solar hybrid Blade Diameter: 4.6 Feet<td></tr></table>

The benefits of wind energy are many as you certainly know. The best part is that there is the possibility to build a wind generator yourself for a reasonable cost nowadays.

Wind turbines – white structures with three or more blades which are used to generate electricity from the wind – are one of the most efficient methods of generating renewable energy.

This is simple fact, and the continued development and licensing of turbines is further testament to this.

The reason for this general opinion is that, when one views the statistics, wind turbines are powerfully useful. For example, with older energy generation techniques such as using fossil fuels, to generate electricity one must use some of the earth’s natural resources. In the case of fossil fuels, these one day will run out.

Wind turbines have no effect on the earth’s composition and do not need to dig into anything to be able to generate. They take nothing from the earth as an organism, and this makes them a mighty weapon in the battle against climate change.

Wind turbines do not produce any emissions, be it carbon dioxide – the cause of climate change – or other such chemicals which may be harmful. Though the construction of a wind farm or turbine requires electricity and source material, it is estimated it takes a mere nine months for a single wind turbine to ‘pay back’ what is has taken out. What is more, after that initial nine months pay back time, wind turbines do not require anything but the wind to operate.

The biggest benefit of wind turbines, however, is that they take a natural source and make it useful. The wind blows everywhere in the world, and all wind turbines do is take the previously unused kinetic energy of natural weather phenomenon and create usable electricity.

Put simply, the benefits of wind turbines and wind power are overwhelmingly convincing.

With more and more fuels getting wasted and used, there are very few options remaining. Bio-fuel is one of the options and to add to it is the use of solar panels for driving motors and making electricity. The third option is harnessing the wind power.

Wind is a powerful source of energy that has been harnessed for different uses for centuries. More and more scientists and researchers feel that wind can be used effectively as a renewable energy source and this can be done only when power within the moving air can be harnessed properly.

The Wind Energy Industry has grown rapidly since the 1990’s and is considered as one of the fastest growing sectors in the power generation industry. Some of the European countries have even installed wind turbines that have been in operation for almost 20 years now and this entire operation has been extremely successful as well. Using wind turbines to harness wind power to create energy have brought down the production costs and are viable option for the coal fired power stations.

According to a study, the UK has the largest potential wind energy resource in the entire Europe and hence wind is being regarded their most promising future source of renewable energy technologies. As of today the wind turbines in the UK are producing electricity that is being delivered to almost 380,000 households and reaching around 1 million people. A salient point of the use of wind energy is that it has reduced carbon dioxide emissions by almost 1.49 million tones per annum.

The question is how can wind be converted into energy? The answer is: by using a wind turbine. The wind turbine is basically a type of rotating device just like a huge fan that can convert the kinetic energy present in the wind into mechanical energy. When this mechanical energy is used by any type of machinery like a pump then such a machine is known as a windmill. If the same mechanical energy is converted to electricity then the machine that does the conversion is called a wind generator or a wind turbine. It is also known as a wind energy converter (WEC) or a wind power unit (WPU).

Surprisingly the first use of the wind machines was for grinding grains as early as 200 B.C in Persia. It was also introduced in the prosperous and powerful Roman Empire in 250 A.D. The year 1900 saw the maximum number of windmills being used in Denmark. Almost 2700 windmills were installed to provide the much needed mechanical load to pumps and gave a peak power of 35MW.

Why turbines should be used to make electricity from wind

Wind turbines can effectively help in creating mechanical energy, which can be used for multiple purposes including assisting in the generation of power and electricity. Some of the other uses include:

One of the salient points is that there is only a one time installation cost after which the electricity that is produced using a wind turbine will be free.

It is a source of clean renewable energy that will not generate any greenhouse gases or emit carbon dioxide or even produce any dangerous wastes.

Each unit of electricity produced by a wind turbine displaces one from every conventional power station. Wind turbines have been commissioned in the UK and have been extremely successful in prevent the emission of almost one and a three-quarter millions tonnes of carbon dioxide every year.

Wind is a reliable and abundant source. UK being the windiest country in Europe has abundance of wind energy that can be used for making electricity.

Wind power contributes significantly to the overall energy generation in any country. Denmark is one of the countries that gets almost 20% of its electricity from wind power

Wind turbines use an extremely robust technology that is designed for operation locally as well as remotely and requires only periodic maintenance.

Wind turbines might be the answer for larger wind projects. For house owners there are diy kits that can be an alternativ when you are going to build wind generator.

Even though it is cheaper to primarily get hooked into the local area energy company’s grid than it is to create and hook into wind turbines, in the long run one saves money with the use of the wind for one’s energy needs—while also becoming more independent.

Not getting an electric bill while enjoying the benefits of the modern electrically- driven life-style is a wonderful sensation.

Electric bills and fuel bills are increasing steadily—but the price tag on wind generator power is zero, and the cost of installing and hooking up a turbine is steadily decreasing as demand rises and more commercial popularity is noticed by various organizations constructing the turbines and searching for technologies and get them ever better.

Wind power to make electricity as an alternative

Additionally, everyone is moving away from the conventional electric grids as well as fossil fuels for private motives like desire for higher self-reliance, the desire to live remotely or rurally and never have to “go primitive”, political concerns like fears of terrorist affects on oil fields or electricity grids, or concerns in regards to the environment.

The demand for wind energy has resulted in a few good diy build wind generator courses. By following these instructions you could make your own electricity for less money than most people realize.

Once more, this drive to get away from the conventional energy resources is the same one that makes people to look for the power of the wind for their energy, giving more professional services to profit from wind generator production and renovation, which drives their costs down for the the public. In almost thirty states at the time of this composing, house owners who stay on the grid but who still are comfortable using wind power(or other alternative forms) are qualified for discounts or tax breaks from the state governments that end up paying for as much as 50% of their total “green” energy systems’ costs.

Furthermore, you can find 35 states at the time of this writing where these people can sell their excess electricity back to the power company under what are called “net metering laws”. The rates that they are being paid by the local power companies for this energy are standard retail rates—in other words, the property owners are instead making money with their own energy production.

A few government lawmakers are pushing to get the federal government to mandate these tax breaks and other wind energy deals in all 50 states. Japan and Germany already have national incentive programs in effect. On the other hand, “A lot of this is handled regionally by state law. There would not really be a role for the federal government, ” the Energy Department’s Craig Stevens says.

And as might be imagined, i have identified power companies who think it’s unfair that they should have to pay retail rates to private consumers. “We should[only have to] pay you the wholesale rate for. . . your electricity, ” according to Bruce Bowen, Pacific Gas& Electric’s director of regulatory policy. Nevertheless, the corporations appear to be more concerned about losing temporary profits than about the benefits, especially in the long run, of the increased use of wind turbines or wind farms. Head of the Center for Energy Efficiency and Renewable Technologies of California V. John White points out, “It’s quality power that strengthens the grid. ”

Hey Erik here,

What you are reading now is my uncensored, sort of, review of what I really thought about Earth4Energy and how I learned to build wind generator.

Note – this is a review though, if you’re looking for the Earth4Energy website then click here.

Why am I writing this? Well, there are several reasons. I love the nature and wildlife. If my few words here could help you to start your own wind power system, then that could be a tiny help in saving the environment. Another point when getting older, is thoughts about what we leave to our children. Maybe it’s too late already but I think it’s worth trying.

Ok, first of all I have to admit that I am not a mechanic. Yes, as I am about to reach my 50s I have done some easier repairs at cars and my sons scooters and so on. But one thing I certainly hadn’t done before this project was any electrical jobs at all. All my life I had stayed away from those kind of tasks as I didn’t have any clue about how to fix them. This was actually something that held me back starting a wind energy project for some time.

I did start a couple of other wind projects earlier and they were not successful. They failed because I didn’t know how to do and didn’t find the answers in the instructions that I had.

The second time I tried, I only used sites and information that I found on the Internet. There are hundreds of pages about how to build wind generator but I found that I had really difficult to choose which one I should trust. As I had tried before I was really skeptical.

To make a long story short – I worked with this project for about two months until I understood that I had to find better instructions.

Now I found the Earth4Energy site.

This seemed to be a much more comprehensive course than I had seen before and yes, it was.

It takes you by the hand, and shows you step by step one of the easiest and most affordable methods to build your own wind generator.

Click here to visit the Earth4Energy site

The step by step guide is really easy to follow. That is certainly the part that I like most. I found that when I followed these steps I actually built the generator that I had dreamed about for years.

Videos that helped me to build wind generator

Something that also helped me a lot was the videos. Things that I had read about before and didn’t understand made sense now when I looked at the videos.

The site claims that you can build a wind generator for under $200. I am not quite sure about that. I had some parts from earlier tryouts that I could use in my system making it hard to decide. Anyway, to me it seems difficult to build something that cheap. I might be wrong.

In conclusion I am glad that I found the Earth4Energy site. The fact is that I finally built my wind mill with this guide. This site has also opened my eyes to solar power as the guide actually consists of how to build both wind and solar generating systems.

I also save money every month and I know that I have done something really good for the environment.

What is a homemade wind generator?

Generally you could say that a wind generator is a machine that uses wind energy to produce electrical energy. It captures wind energy and converts it into mechanical energy that moves the blades of a motor to produce electrical energy.

Wind generators help produce thousands of megawatts of electricity. They are also a very popular power solution for individual farms. They are ideal for large areas with good wind speed.

Setting up or build wind generator does not need professional help; individuals can easily set it up with the help of numerous guides available in the market. The components of a wind generator are also easily available in the market.

How does a wind generator differ from a windmill or wind turbine?

Wind generators have been in use for a long time in the form of windmills or wind turbines. Years ago, when electricity was not invented, wind turbines were used to pull boats and pump out water.

Even now, the terms, wind generator, windmill, and wind turbine are used to refer to the same device.

What are the advantages of using a wind generator?

The advantages of a wind generator are many. Let’s look at a few of them.

Environment-friendly: Wind generators prove to be environment-friendly in two ways:

They do not emit harmful gases in the atmosphere nor do they leave any harmful residual component.

They do not use any fuel to produce electricity, thereby helping the cause of the environment.

Power-saver: Wind generators are an alternative power solution. They do not use any non-renewable sources of energy, thus helping in times of energy crisis.

Economical: Though the initial cost of setting up a wind generator seems high, the cost of generating electricity in the long run becomes nil. So, you will be getting electricity absolutely free after a few years.

Independent option: Wind generators do away with the dependence on power plants and the government for electricity. With a wind generator in your land, you have your own power plant for life.

24/7 power: With wind generators, you can say bye to power outages forever. You will get continuous, uninterrupted power supply for your entire house and land.

Power storage: A homemade wind generator also allows you to store power for use later. This feature makes it an amazingly lucrative power solution.

If you want to help the world and fight the current energy crisis, invest in a wind generator.

A windmill is a device that converts wind energy into other types of energy. It uses wind power to make mechanical energy for rotating its blades which in turn help produce electrical energy. The windmill is a very useful machine in times of energy crisis.

The windmill started producing electricity lately; it used to be a popular method for pumping water and towing boats.

In the current situation of extreme energy crisis across the globe, it only makes sense that we look for alternate power solutions. The windmill proves to be an economical option, especially in farms and in the countryside. A windmill may not be the optimum solution in a highly-populated area.

What are the prerequisites for setting up a windmill or build wind generator?

There are two important pre-requisites for a windmill:

The place where the solution is to be implemented should have an area of at least one acre. It is not advisable to set up a windmill in a smaller area as the windmill blades will not be able to capture enough wind power for the windmill to work.

The average speed of wind in the area should approximately be 11 miles per hour. It is not advisable to employ the windmill at a site where factors like high-rise buildings and tall towers block the wind. You also need to make sure that the wind speed is consistent at your site.

What are the components of a windmill?

You will need the following components to make windmill power:

Blades: These blades are responsible for making use of the wind energy. Blades are typically made of wood or plastic.

Tower: The tower is the pillar that holds the system high enough to be able to use the wind. They are made up of hard material such as poly-vinyl chloride.

Shaft: The shaft is used to join the blades to the tower, at the same time allowing them to rotate smoothly.

Base: The base of the windmill is what holds the tower and the blades.

How is a windmill set up?

You will find ready-to-install windmill kits in the market. Consult an expert to choose the one that best suits your place and needs. If you would like to choose the components personally and set the windmill on your own, make sure you seek professional help; a mismatch of size in the components will make your windmill useless.

Although it is generally accepted that for mankind to continue to benefit from energy in the way that it currently does we will need alternative energy sources, there is still some debate about the effectiveness of the methods currently available in reducing our dependency on fossil fuels. This is visible in the fact that there are, as yet, few countries with a viable wind power network. For short you have to say that there still is some skepticism about wind power.

The green movement worldwide has a fight on its hands to persuade governments and private enterprise that wind power is genuinely the way forward. It is undeniable that there are real benefits to using alternative energy sources, not least the fact that while the world has a finite amount of fossil fuels, there is always going to be a climate. There will always be wind and there will always be sun. As yet, however, people and companies looking to use these sources are limited in their opportunities.

Unless you are located close enough to a wind-based power station to benefit from the supply that it creates, your only option is to erect your own wind turbine or build wind generator. This depends on you having a constant supply of the correct environmental conditions. A small building in a built-up area may find this difficult because tall buildings have a tendency to block off wind and interfere with the general supply.

Unless governments put their efforts into making alternative energy sources truly viable, there will be difficulties for companies looking to go green. It will cost money, something which is currently in short supply.

What really constitutes windmill design?

You could say that a windmill is device that converts wind energy into mechanical energy which is later converted into electrical energy. A windmill typically consists of the following parts:

The blades – A windmill can consist of any number of blades from four to 20. Some special wind mills have higher number of blades.

The tower – The tower holds the rotating blades high up in the air so that the winds rotate them.

The shaft – The shaft is responsible for joining the blades with the tower and for the smooth rotation of blades.

The generator – The generator is what generates electricity from the mechanical energy. It also stores power for future use.

The base: The base of the windmill keeps it grounded to the earth.

What factors affect windmill design?

There are many factors that affect the design of a windmill. Let’s understand the major ones:

Wind speed: The wind speed can be accurately measured with the help of an anemometer. It is not possible to determine the right kind of wind mill without knowing the accurate wind speed.

Wind direction: For designing a windmill, it is also important to know the direction from which the wind flows most of the time.

Change in wind speed: Apart from the constant speed of mind, it is required that you know how the wind changes its speed.

Change of wind direction: The direction of wind will not be constant, so it important to note the way it changes its direction.

Obstructions on the site: It is best t install a windmill at a place without many obstructions. Look out for existing and potential structures that may affect the performance of your windmill.

Wind turbulence: The movement of wind is not always predictable. However, it is a good idea to understand the patter of wind turbulence in your site.

Distance of wind activity from the ground: The height of the tower is dependent on the height at which the wind is active.

What are the possible designs of windmills?

Aerodynamics determines the design of a windmill based on the factors mentioned in the section above. The designs of windmills vary in the following measures and of most importance when you build wind generator:

Number of blades

Shape of the blades

Height of the tower

Kind of generators

Distance of the installation spot from the ground

Distance between the tower and the generator

This article discuss what the wind energy advantage really is.

Sometimes when the electricity supply goes off unexpectedly due to a power cut it can last for several days. Having no hot water, no cooking facilities, a lack of refrigeration and no form of heating or lighting are just some of the inconveniences incurred.

Power grid independency is only one of the many reasons to consider installing wind power preventing you from becoming solely reliant on the electricity companies.

Installing wind power will allow you to be in charge or your own environment. The problems experienced by others through the failure of mainstream electricity supplies will not affect you. In fact, you may not even be aware that anyone else is having difficulties until they contact you asking for your assistance as they are suffering in either hot or freezing conditions!

Another great benefit if you build a wind generator is the rebate offered by many states for people
who are willing to install wind generators in their homes. In overall terms it is likely to take up to ten years or maybe a little more to see the monetary benefits of having the original installation carried out, but from that time onwards the best part of your power will be free. Just imagine the fact that the running costs of your home or business, or even both, can be reduced to practically nothing. This is because your meter will slow down considerably as your wind power equipment kicks in, thereby reducing your supply from the grid.

This low usage from the grid will be maintained until such a time that the wind is not strong enough to produce power and you will then notice your meter speed up again whilst power is being drawn from the grid supply. In California, if you have wind power within your home, it can in reality replace power back into the grid, so your meter will go backwards; in effect giving you credited power to use in the future. This or similar systems may be introduced in other states in the near future, thus expanding the advantages of wind power more widely.

Although wind power is not perfect, it is a safe and honest cost effective plan for the time ahead of your family and country. Take a minute to sit down and work out just how much you expect your power bills to cost you for the rest of you and your children’s lives. Make a comparison with that of a wind power supply and the benefits will be clear to you.

Even if you feel having wind power installed is an expense you just cannot afford at the minute, it may be worth considering taking out a loan as the savings you are likely to make will be more than adequate to repay the amount you have borrowed. Make sure you check out the information available about which schemes are on offer to you.

Build a wind power generators for your need.

There really does not seem to be anyone out there that can dispute the fact that the energy sources we are currently using to run electric into our homes is quickly running out. Besides the fact that we are killing off a lot of our natural resources by using them all up, we are also putting out a lot of pollution into the air. So by using anything other than a natural and environmentally friendly energy source, we are killing our planet and costing ourselves much more than just money.

Everyone seems to already know a little something about solar panels being used but there is the wind power that no one seems to really know much about. But to build wind generator will provide you with all of the power that you could possibly need. The best thing to do is to first dismiss the thought that areas with little wind cannot make use of wind power. The thing is though every place gets enough wind in order to make wind electricity. All that has to be done is to determine the right placement for the wind tower in order to get the most benefits from it.

If you are in an area that has little wind then you will build a generator to be taller in order to get the wind it needs. If you find that you happen to live in an area with a high amount of wind then you may be able to get away with building the wind machine to be lower to the ground. As long as you are getting it set up in a position that will allow it to create wind electricity you will be fine. Just make sure that you build wind generator in a place that captures wind moving at least eleven miles per hour. This will make sure that there is enough continuous air moving through the generator to supply your home with all of the energy that you need.

When you build a wind generator, you want to make sure that it is done in a manner that is most efficient. The tower is typically topped with five blades that will spin to create the energy that you need. A great thing about extra windy areas is that if you are producing more energy than you can use at the current moment you are able to store it for later. This means that you are able to supply your home with all of the energy it needs now and have some to use as spare energy in case you ever need it.

By taking steps to build wind power generators you are helping to make sure that you are saving the world from completely depleting its natural resources. You also help to make sure that you are not contributing to the massive amount of pollution that is created every year by power plants. Make sure that you are now going to be a part of the solution and not a part of the problem and you will be a lot better off. Create wind electricity and forget about what the power plants are trying to sell you.

Using residential wind power to fuel your home is a great alternative to using the existing power companies. The problem is it is extremely expensive to buy a wind power system and have it installed. Prices for these starts at 3,000 dollars for small home wind generators. If you could learn to build, one at home using common materials you can buy from any hardware store that would change things a bit wouldn’t it?

Your own system will also help you cut down on your electric bill if you want to stay connected to the power grid, this way the power companies will have to pay you if you create more power than you can use. You will not have to worry about having power outages as you will have your own source right there at home.

What you need to know about residential wind power

You will need to determine if the area you live in has enough average wind speed to power a wind turbine. You will need at least a ten mile per hour average wind speed in your area to use residential wind power. Consult a wind source map to find out the average wind speed for your area. You will also need to think about where you are going to set up your windmill. Select a spot that is not obstructed from the wind by buildings, trees or other obstacles.

You can create wind power and save a lot of money, you will also be doing a lot to help the environment. Wind power is green energy; it does not cause any pollution and helps to reduce it because when you are using it you are not using fuel from non-renewable resources such as what is generally provided by the power companies. Residential wind power is a great energy solution for your home.

You can build your own home wind generators for less than $200 dollars and you can do it with step-by-step instructions and an easy to understand video. You do not have to be an engineer to understand how to build your own residential wind power system. One weekend is all it takes to build it with common materials from the hardware store. The video will tell you what you need to buy and exactly what you need to do to build wind generator. You can use simple tools or if you have more advanced ones that is even better.

Wind power is one of the cleanest sources to get electricity. To get large scale energy from wind, wind farms are used. What can we tell about wind turbine efficiency today?

To find out how efficient wind turbines or actually wind farms are, you need to know how they work. The wind turbines accumulate the power of the wind in two steps: the propeller blades are rotated by the wind, and the propeller then drives a shaft. This spinning shaft is connected to a generator. The rotating action cranks the generator, and this is the way the electricity is generated. Actually the system is very like hydropower, but in this case the wind is the energy source rather than falling water. With only one wind turbine you will not get really much electricity and these smaller turbines are meant to power one or maybe a couple of houses.

The strength in wind farms is the combination of many wind turbines in one district, which all are working together to produce electricity. The energy can then be used by communities through existing utility grids or stored in batteries. Modern wind turbines can also turn to catch the wind as it gusts from different angles, a factor which makes them far more efficient than before. The larger the turbine’s blades and the taller the turbine’s height will increase the efficiency as well. This is important to keep in mind when you are planning to build wind generator.

The accurate efficiency of wind farms is very difficult to define. This is because there are that many variables that are unknown or hard to predict. The terrain, amount of wind, size of turbines and so on are variables that always differ. Often, one wind mill will convert about 21 percent of the power in wind to electricity. The most efficient production is between 6 and 19 miles an hour of wind speed.

While wind technology has not went to a point where no energy is lost while harnessing it, it is fair to say that it is favorable compared to other renewable sources. It may take a while for the whole world to catch on to using wind as a power source. The fact is that it has definitely become an important alternative energy source. Countries such as Denmark and China are absolutely investing a lot into this kind of renewable energy.

What are proven wind turbines? As the history of wind power goes all the way back to 200 B.C and the they were simple wind mills built upon the horizontal axis principle I would say that they are proven.

The horizontal axis wind turbines are still the most common type of wind power generator. There is a generator and a central rotator handle at the head of the tower. These need to be positioned into the wind; otherwise they will not produce any power.

A wind vane is normally enough for this idea when we talk about small turbines, but when we turn to large turbines, there should be a servo motor together with a wind sensor helping the construction point into the right wind direction. The rotation of the blades is managed by a gearbox which extends the rotational speed of the blades when there is a need for that.
The turbine is normally pointed against the wind to cover up for the turbulence made by the tower. There are downwind machines that are built to fight the issue with turbulence. Those constructions often use an additional device to keep the windturbine in line with the wind. This is to avoid damages caused by extremely high winds.

This is a wind power article I found that might be a bit old but in my mind worth reading…or listening if you prefer.

We live in an energy conscious world today and more and more people are seeking ways to reduce carbon emissions and help protect the environment. Cutting down on fossil fuels and the use of renewable energy is a key part of protecting our planet.

Wind power has emerged as one of the most effective ways of harnessing the Earth’s natural resources to produce a clean form of energy that doesn’t damage our environment.

There are several advantages of wind power and as oil prices continue to rise and pressure mounts to cut down on carbon emissions, the benefits of wind power and other alternative energy sources are becoming more and more apparent.

According to experts, wind power could meet 10 per cent of the world’s electricity within 20 years, even if the amount of electricity used doubled. At present, the annual growth rate of wind power is more than 40 per cent and it should soon supply electricity to 100 million people worldwide. Europe is currently the world leader when it comes to wind power with Germany and Spain providing the most electricity through wind power. The United States is third on the list, followed by India and Denmark.

Wind power is the fastest growing source of alternative energy in the United States and around the world. Every year, more a more households get their electricity through wind power. However, this cheap and clean source of energy is still only being used to a fraction of its potential. However, this is likely to change in the next few years for a number of reasons.

Wind power is clean

The chief advantage of wind power is that it is clean. There is no smoke, no fumes, no smog and no dirty air for us to breath. A turbine simply harnesses the energy of the wind and produces electricity without producing any waste whatsoever.

Wind power can produce electricity that can be fed directly to homes and factories, replacing the power supplied by major power plants. Today, power plants are among the biggest polluters in the United States. However, a single 1-MW wind turbine can save on 2,000 tons of carbon dioxide in one year. This is the same of planting one square mile of forest. And that is just from one turbine, imagine what one hundred turbines will do to help save our environment.

Windpower is cheap

Wind is free so wind energy is cheap. In fact, it is the most competitive of all the renewable energy sources when it comes to cost and can easily rival the cost of other more tradition fuels like gas or oil.

Wind power is a relatively new technology and at the outset it was quite an expensive source of power. However, developments in the technology means that costs have reduced drastically and are continuing to fall. Meanwhile, the cost of power provide by fossil fuels is going up so wind power is likely to become the cheapest for of electricity in the near future. And once it becomes the cheapest, we can expect to see a significant rise in the number of wind farms in the United States.

Wind power for all of us – home WP

Wind is everywhere so there is the potential to build wind farms anywhere. Of course, some areas are better than others for harnessing wind power but the ability to have wind power as a local source of energy is a real plus. It can save on miles and miles of cabling, provide jobs and investment in local areas, and generally boost local economies.

Wind power also benefits society on a wider level. It makes for a cleaner environment which means healthier people and fewer air pollution-related medical problems. It can also be put in place quickly, cheaply and easily to deliver a reliable source of energy in a relatively short space of time and nowadays you actually can build wind generator yourself.

What about the future?

The future of wind power is affected by any number of larger, global environmental and geo-political issues. With world leaders currently developing a new agreement on how the world is going to tackle climate change, a number of major changes can be expected in the world’s energy supply. A move to greener, cleaner sources of energy is inevitable.

This signals a busy future for wind power. At the moment we have barely scratched the surface of this valuable resource. In the United States, wind power supplies less than 1 per cent of the country’s total electricity needs. However, there is the potential to have 60 per cent of electricity supplied by wind power, and the figures are similar on a global scale.

So, in the coming years we are likely to see the number of wind farms around the world rocket as more and more countries harness this clean and cheap source of electricity.

A vertical axis wind turbine design has vertical alignment of the shaft. One of the major benefits of such turbines is that there is no need for the turbine to be positioned into the wind to be efficient. These wind turbines are as a rule used on locations that witness a fluctuating wind direction. Wind energy from all positions can be utilized by vertical axis wind turbines (VAWT). This picture seems not be a vertical axis construction but a nice small scale wind power system.

Vertical axis means that the gearbox and also the generator can be located close by ground as there is no need for the tower to offer it support. This also means that the gearbox and the generator are at hand when you need to maintain the wind turbines. This type of wind turbine design is not what you should think about if you are about to build wind generator.

Wind Turbines – Design

The wind turbines have to take advantage of the wind energy present at a distinct position. Designers and constructors use the aerodynamic modeling for the conclusion of the different control systems to be used, number of blades, models of the blade, and the most favorable height of the tower.

The new wind turbines are primarily build for transformation of wind energy into electricity. In accordance with this purpose, the wind turbine has three major components, namely the rotor component, the generator component, and the structural component. About 20% of the cost of the wind turbine is taken up by the rotor, while an approximate 34% of the cost is spend by the generator. 15% of the cost of the wind turbine is taken up the structural components. These figures might be a bit different today.

Ok, you have thoughts about how to build a homemade wind turbine. With the right instructions it’s not a very complicated work.

This is a small list of “think-about” things when you are starting your first wind energy project. It’s a random list and more of an idea list than a step by step that you find in your instructions material.

Check that you have the right tools.

Be sure to have enough workspace.

Do you have the right material

Have you checked the wind maps where you live?

Do you need any permission for your construction?

Do you know anyone to partner up with? It’s more fun when you can build in a team or at least discuss the project with someone else interested (maybe not your spouse).

Could I build several of these wind turbines and start selling them for an additional income?

Be sure to know how much you are going to save on your energy bills with this project. This is a great help if you get stuck and think it’s difficult. You build it once and then you save money for years to come.

Building a homemade wind turbine is both fun and rewarding.

You might have thought about it but never more than that. Maybe you think it’s too difficult and not the kind of project that you generally would get busy with. Actually, more and more people are producing diy home wind power each day. It isn’t that demanding at all and the instructions you get from the Internet or from a purchased course are usually great.

If you decide to purchase one from a wholesaler or retailer, you save some time but usually you have to pay a lot more. The end result if you are thinking about efficiency doesn’t vary that much. If you follow the instructions you probably find your home built wind generator as good as the one from the retailer. You can also use some used parts for the construction and save even more.

So, what is the real cost to build home wind power? This question depends on many different factors but generally you can get a windmill under $400. Naturally, if you choose better quality elements or go for higher kW, the total cost will rise.

What I have found there are two main actors with good diy wind power courses out there at the moment. I can’t really tell which of these are better… I think it depends on what you really need. The first one is Earth Energy Secrets and the second is Home Made Energy Secrets.

Humdinger wind energy provides a really interesting touch to the wind energy field. Their innovative products like the Windcell and the Windbelt are very welcome to the market.

The system is not based upon the traditional rotating airfoils to get energy from the wind; this is constructed to harvest the energy with a belt and relies on an aerodynamic phenomenon known as aeroelastic flutter. This is the same phenomenon that was behind the catastrophe in 1940.

We have gone from windmills to wind turbines and now we see some new products that also are suitable for the local market.

The large systems are a combination of many smaller “windcell panels” that harvest the wind with some similarities from the solar panels. They are built in modules and can be combined into really large systems and at a very low cost.

Check out the Humdinger website for more detailed information.

Electricity and the sources of electricity is a hot topic today. We all understand that something must be done to increase the use of renewable energy solutions.

What is it like today in the United States? What are the main sources for power?

Unfortunately, coal burning is by far still number one with almost half of the total production (49,8 %). From natural gas and nuclear power we get almost 20 % each.

Then we have hydroelectric and burning petroleum producing a bit less than 10%.

Doing the math shows that the percentage for renewable energy is really small, 2,3%. That includes solar power, biomass, bio fuels, geothermal energy, hydrogen and wind power.

So, what can we do about it?

Well, it seems a bit difficult to make any impact on the whole picture. My solution is to make as much electricity as I can on my own. To use wind power when it is possible and also help others to do so.

What would you say if your neighbor mentioned she was going to build a mini wind turbine? Surprised? To be honest, it is not hard to build such wind generators and homeowners over the country are going for the challenge to make their own electricity. Naturally this is one way to utilize renewable energy. There are some challenges in building such a system but if you find the right instructions you can do it pretty easy.

There is lot of information on the Internet about how to build wind generators but as always with Internet, you don’t know what works and what don’t. My recommendation is to buy an instruction manual to follow. Then you know it will work and maybe most important; you get a guarantee that it will work.

There are a few basic parts in a wind turbine. These are the batteries, turbines, tail and propeller or blades. Yes, you will need some tools but they are simple as well. You need a saw, wrenches and a drill. Then you might need some place where you build the windmill or you can even choose to build it in your garden.

The part that you probably have to purchase is the motor. You can find suitable motors on EBay or similar sites. You could also start with a used one but that might not be the proper way to start out. If there is a problem you will not know if it is caused by the motor.

How much time do I need? Well, it depends on many things but the answer is usually not much. This isn’t a complicated process and most of the time is really for finding the components you decide to use when you build wind generator or turbine.

This has nothing to do with a homemade wind turbine but I think it can be a great source of inspiration. Anything can be done!

For us diy guys offshore wind power might not be the obvious answer to our energy demand. However, if you live at the coast or near a great lake, you have the advantage of a strong constant wind.

This also depends on many different factors. Do you have to buy the complete system ready built or do you have the ability to build or assemble a do it yourself kit.

There are diy kits that claim that you can get wind power from a small windmill for $150. In this case you buy most of the parts from your locale hardware store. You build the wind turbine yourself and could be producing free green energy in a few hours. This isn’t the kind of wind generator that produces large amount of electricity but in these days every watt counts.

What materials are suitable for the blades?

A PVC pipe is an easy and affordable way to go. You can build these blades yourself but the downside is the efficiency.

The best and most effective blades you get from plastic composite carbon fiber. These are more expensive but in the long run, what you should go for. With this kind of blades you can often get lifetime guarantees as the usually never crack. As the blades are pre-built you save some time in the building phase.

Many still prefer to make the turbine blades from wood. The reasons are that it’s easy to work with and quite inexpensive. The strength to weight ratio is great and if maintained, they can last for a very long time. The Cedar tree is one favorite for homemade wind turbine blades but there are also blades made from Pine and Spruce.

Windmill power for homes is actually not anything new. Maybe the angle of generating electricity is new but the use of windmills is very old. However we have not that much help of the old technique today.

Most of us considering the use of wind power naturally think about paying a couple of thousand for a complete windmill system. There are a lot of advantages in doing that if you can afford it. You could be up and running with green energy in literally hours.

If you think you don’t can afford a ready made system you could consider the build a windmill yourself. There are several diy courses and some of them are really good. The success with these kits or courses will of course depend a bit on your own possibilities and tools.

As we get more money conscious we are trying to use more cost effective methods to produce electricity. Wind and solar power are the two main renewable energy sources that we easily could build systems for our self. These are always there for us all and we can start producing power from them by installing our own systems in our own backyard.

Have you, or do you know about anyone who have built their own windmill?

Using residential wind power to fuel your home is a great alternative to using the existing power companies. The problem is it is extremely expensive to buy a wind power system and have it installed. Prices for these starts at 3,000 dollars for small home wind generators. If you could learn to build, one at home using common materials you can buy from any hardware store that would change things a bit wouldn’t it?

Your own system will also help you cut down on your electric bill if you want to stay connected to the power grid, this way the power companies will have to pay you if you create more power than you can use. You will not have to worry about having power outages as you will have your own source right there at home.

You can build your own wind generator for less than $200 dollars and you can do it with step-by-step instructions and an easy to understand video. You do not have to be an engineer to understand how to build your own wind power system. One weekend is all it takes to build it with common materials from the hardware store. The video will tell you what you need to buy and exactly what you need to do to build your windmill. You can use simple tools or if you have more advanced ones that is even better.
